SAS spend USD45 million to acquire American company Globitech 100% shares
Adding high-value epitaxial wafers to its semiconductor manufacturing business
SAS has demonstrated its outstanding performance in its solar business. The Board announced today plans to spend USD 45million to acquire 100% of shares of Globitech Incorporated, an American company located in Sherman, Texas, U.S.A., to increase its product line and extend its development in the semiconductor industry . The closing date of the acquisition is scheduled for February 29th, 2008. The purpose of this acquisition is to combine the strong technical capability and the value of the customers from Globitech with the superior management experience of SAS. Today, the Board also officially approved the project of building a second solar plant in Chunan. The maximum capacity of the second solar plant is targeted at 400 MW. SAS is expected to promote the best interests of the company, its shareholders and employees with the construction of the second solar plant and acquisition of Globitech.
The strategic meaning for SAS acquiring Glogitech
Through this acquisition, SAS will be able to extend its process capability from ingot growing, slicing, grinding, polishing to epitaxial deposition. It will up-grade its technology of polished wafers and help SAS to enter into high added value 6” polished wafer and 8” barrier layer EPI wafer production and business. SAS will not only have an excellent technical team with experts used to work at TI and MEMC, but also be able to contact and sell directly to IDM well-known companies that Globitech has established; like TI, ON-SEMI, IRC, Vishay, FSC, European XFab, Japanese Rohm etc.
About American company Globitech

Sales revenue in year 2006 was USD36 million and it expects sales revenue in year 2007 to be about USD 34 million. Globitech’s major customers are 6” EPI wafer IDM customers like ON-SEMI, Vishay, Rohm, XFab and 8” barrier layer EPI service like TI, XFab.
What is EPITAXIAL (EPI)?
Epitaxial process is to grow a high purity and flat silicon film on the surface of a polished wafer (substrate). The technology of epitaxial process can be broadly used on discrete and semiconductor devices.
1.High efficient discrete devices like Schottky Diode, S.S. Transistor & MOSFET
2.Auto electronic devices like MOSFET, Regular IC
3.Power management devices like Power Management IC
4.Communication devices like BiCMOS
5.System integrated devices like System on chip, SOC etc.
Epitaxial process:
Polished wafer (substrate) inspection→growing silicon film→film inspection (thickness /uniformity /resistivity)→clean→surface inspection (particle, metal)→Packaging & shipping
