Sino-American Silicon Products Inc. (SAS, 5483:TT) and United Renewable Energy Co., Ltd. (URECO, 3576:TT) today announced the establishment of a U.S.-based joint venture that will manufacture solar modules. The joint venture will build a manufacturing facility with an annual production capacity of 1 GW and a total planned investment of approximately US$40 million. SAS will hold a 51% equity stake and URECO will hold the remaining 49%. The company will be led by seasoned solar industry executive Fred Yeh. Centered on U.S. local manufacturing, the joint venture will integrate the two companies’ complementary strengths in material supply, technology development, manufacturing, sales channels, and brand management. It will focus on solar module manufacturing, customer support, and building a localized supply chain, delivering high-quality solar modules with proven reliability, full traceability, bankability and transparent supply chain management.
Advancing with the U.S. Energy Transition to Capture New Market Opportunities
In recent years, the United States has accelerated efforts to strengthen energy independence and manufacturing reshoring. At the same time, the rapid growth of AI data centers has driven increasing demand for low-carbon electricity, further elevating market expectations for local manufacturing, supply chain transparency, product quality, and bankability. These trends are accelerating the restructuring of the global solar supply chain. Against this backdrop, demand continues to grow for energy products that are secure, reliable, and supported by transparent supply chains. The ability to manufacture locally in the United States, provide full product traceability, and ensure long-term supply reliability has become increasingly important for securing large-scale projects and expanding in the U.S. market. Taiwanese companies that combine strong technological capabilities with proven operational expertise are well positioned to capitalize on these opportunities. Recognizing the long-term growth potential of the U.S. solar market, SAS and URECO have decided to jointly invest in establishing a solar module manufacturing facility in the United States. Through this partnership, the two companies
are joining forces to expand their presence in the U.S. market, further strengthening their service capabilities and supply flexibility for customers across North America, while capturing the market opportunities arising from the U.S. energy transition and the growth of domestic manufacturing.
Leveraging Complementary Strengths to Enhance Competitiveness in the U.S. Market
This partnership combines the strengths of both companies across different segments of the solar industry value chain. With more than 40 years of industry experience, SAS has established a presence in both the semiconductor and renewable energy sectors. The company has long been committed to the development of solar cell technologies and high-efficiency products while building capabilities in global manufacturing management, international market expansion, industrial investment, and supply chain integration, backed by a solid financial foundation and long-standing customer trust. Through this joint venture, SAS will not only serve as a strategic investor and resource coordinator, but also draw upon its decades of experience in solar technology, manufacturing and operational management to help establish the joint venture’s operational platform and expand its presence in the U.S. market. United Renewable Energy (URECO) has built a strong presence in the U.S. market over the years, accumulating an expansive portfolio of international solar power plants and demonstrating robust total solution capabilities. Its URECO brand stands as Taiwan’s only solar module brand with leading international competitiveness. Drawing on 21 years of R&D and manufacturing experience, the company has not only received the Taiwan Excellent PV Award—the highest honor in Taiwan’s solar photovoltaic industry—13 times, but has also been consistently recognized as a BloombergNEF Tier 1 global module manufacturer, demonstrating its internationally recognized brand reputation and outstanding bankability.
Taiwan’s Leading Solar Companies Join Forces in the U.S. to Build a Trusted Local Supply Chain
Looking ahead, the joint venture will combine SAS’s strengths in solar cell technology, global manufacturing, and international business development with URECO’s expertise in module engineering, quality excellence, and sales channels, connecting key segments of the solar industry value chain. Together, the partners will build a U.S.-based supply platform that built on safety, reliability, supply chain transparency, and long-term fulfillment capability, providing the U.S. market with trusted products and services that offer sustainable competitiveness.
Sam Hong, URECO Chairman, stated, “URECO offers total solution capabilities spanning technology, quality, and supply chain integration. Through this partnership with SAS, we are bringing together Taiwan’s premier solar supply chain team to combine our competitive strengths in global markets. Furthermore, this collaboration demonstrates Taiwan’s critical role and value in driving the global energy transition amid an evolving geopolitical landscape!”
Doris Hsu, SAS Chairperson, stated, “The United States is one of the world’s most important markets for the energy transition. This partnership reflects both companies’ confidence in the sustained growth of the U.S. market while showcasing the technological expertise, manufacturing and operational excellence that Taiwan’s renewable energy industry has built over many years. Together with URECO, SAS looks forward to establishing a trusted local supply platform that enables customers to capitalize on the opportunities created by the energy transition and the continued expansion of domestic manufacturing!”
